The tamil Nadu government has ordered paddy procurement centres to stop buying 'TKM9' type paddy from farmers. In this regard, the tamil Nadu government has issued a press release: Paddy of the 'TKM 9' variety is grown in a few localities in tamil Nadu, including Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, and Nagapattinam. Because the rice obtained by grinding this variety of paddy is slightly thick and red in colour, the general people does not wish to buy it through the Public Distribution Scheme. Even people who live in locations where this sort of paddy is grown refuse to eat this rice.
The government has chosen not to distribute 'DKM9' type rice under the Public Distribution Scheme because it does not want it, and has mandated that direct paddy procurement centres stop acquiring 'DKM9' type paddy from farmers starting in the KMS 2022-2023 season. Farmers are also being encouraged to grow other paddy kinds that are currently available on the market, according to the report.
The tamil Nadu State election commission has announced that by-elections will be held on march 30 and 31 for the posts of chairpersons and members of standing committees, ward committee chairman, tax appellate committee members, nominating committee members and contract committee members.
