With multiple
indian netizens voicing dissatisfaction on tweets from KFC
pakistan on
february 5 and the previous one, the American fast food behemoth KFC has found itself in a difficult situation. #BoycottKFC began trending on
twitter today (February 7) after multiple
twitter users shared a year-old message from KFC's
pakistan operation about
kashmir on
february 5, which was commemorated in
pakistan as "Kashmir Solidarity Day."
Pakistan is commemorating the day to show its support for Kashmiri separatists in India. On
kashmir Day last year, KFC
pakistan tweeted, "We stand united this
kashmir Solidarity Day, to realise their right to independence." The handle also tweeted a photo of mountains with the phrases "Their yearning for freedom are heartfelt,"
kashmir printed in a font with razor wires below, along with the message.
"You never left our minds," says this year's tweet, "and we hope that the future years bring you serenity." A image with the words "Kashmir belonging to the Kashmiris" is underneath it. Some
twitter users claimed that the corporation had no right to do
business in
india because the hashtag was trending. Some
people demanded that the firm be prosecuted. As one commenter put it, "I'm pleading with the federal
government and the state governments to take severe action against all @KFC
india locations and order them to close down. They are not permitted to conduct
business in India."
