"I implore
tamil Nadu's
chief minister to intervene promptly in the Cauvery water dispute and exert the required pressure on the
central government to ensure that the
karnataka government pays
tamil Nadu for the water it owes," OPS added. Regarding this he issued a
press statement which reads, "In order to carry out farming production in the Cauvery Delta, which is
tamil Nadu's rice bowl, the scenario has altered to the point that we are required to seek for our portion of Cauvery River water, to go to justice and obtain an order, and not only that, but also to execute the order."
Due to the fact that 85 percent of the canal irrigated areas rely on Cauvery water, the lifeblood of
tamil Nadu, and
tamil Nadu's entitlement to use Cauvery water, former
chief minister Jayalalithaa released the final ruling of the Cauvery Arbitral Tribunal in the Central Gazette after a huge
court battle. Following that, the
supreme court somewhat changed the Cauvery Arbitral Tribunal's final order.
The Cauvery Water Management Authority and the Cauvery River Regulatory Commission were established as a result. The Cauvery Water Management Authority's major role, with the help of the Cauvery River Water Regulatory Commission, is to monitor the availability, distribution, regulation, and control of Cauvery water, as well as to carry out the
supreme Court's verdict. It is inexcusable that
karnataka and
tamil Nadu have remained silent on the demand for water more than 15 days following the Cauvery Water Management Authority's decision. The
karnataka government's silence is a clear violation of the
supreme Court's ruling. As a result, delta farmers find themselves in a dangerous position.
