On Friday, riot police attacked a rally, arresting 14 activists, including mla Vanathi Srinivasan. To curb the spread of corona virus in the state, the tamil Nadu government has banned pilgrims from entering temples on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. In this background, the bjp staged a demonstration in front of the coimbatore Thandumariamman temple yesterday, urging that temples be accessible and worshippers be allowed to visit on any day of the week.

A huge number of individuals joined the rally, which was staged in contravention of a police ban, including bjp National Women's Front leader and coimbatore South mla Vanathi Srinivasan and state general secretary GKS Selvakumar. Racecourse police Assistant Inspector Rajinikanth filed a complaint at the Racecourse police station in this regard. "Those who breached the ban during the Corona time should data-face consequences," it stated.

Police at the Racecourse have apprehended 14 bjp officials and executives, including Vanathi Srinivasan, mla, for violating three sections of the law, one of which is for illegally transmitting corona infection. Apart from them, several party members in other parts of tamil Nadu who were involved in protests were also arrested by the local cops and they were released by late night with a warning.
