Teacher sent to jail for throwing pen at student
After throwing a pen at a Class 3 student, a former school teacher in kerala was sentenced to one year in jail. The student's left eye was struck by the pen, and he lost vision in that eye. On january 18, 2005, the event occurred 16 years ago. Al Amin, an eight-year-old pupil, was allegedly talking to other children while she was in class, and the instructor threw a pen at her. The child's left eye was punctured by the pen, causing him to lose his vision in that eye. Al Amin had three operations but never regained his vision.
Sheriffa Shahjahan was suspended from school for six months after Al Amin's parents filed a police report. She did, however, return to school after only one month of suspension.
The prosecution argued in court that the teacher's actions were heinous. According to the prosecutor, the offence is not acceptable in society and needs commensurate punishment.
Sheriffa Shahjahan, a retired school teacher, was also fined Rs 3 lakh by the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) court in Thiruvananthapuram. She data-faces an extra three months in prison if the fee is not paid.
