PM Modi renames Khel Ratna Award
PM Modi has now made an official announcement that Khel Ratna Award is now renamed and will be called as 'Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award' and he made this announcement as indian Men's Team and Women's Team in hockey made a solid impression at the ongoing tokyo 2020 Olympics. While indian Men's team bagged the Bronze medal, the indian Women's team fought with a lot of determination and finally on the verge of fourth-quarter lost it to the Great britain team.
However, they got appreciation from several cricketers and prominent personalities on social media for their fighting spirit. Even though the indian Women's team missed out on their Maiden Olympic medal, the indian Women's team has reached 4th place for the first time in 41 years and it is not an easy thing to achieve.
Once upon a time, india dominated hockey for decades and Dhyan Chand played an integral part in getting gold Medals for india during 1928, 1932, and 1936 Olympics. india was considered as Invincibles at the olympics hockey event and Dhyan Chand was the main reason behind all of those. Earlier, Khel Ratna Award was named after former Late prime minister Rajiv gandhi and now Modi has renamed it.
