On june 2, music composer Ilaiyaraaja became 81 years old. On social media, his many admirers and famous people showed him love and compassion. He told the media straight out that he wasn't feeling festive this year, even with the large group of people at his chennai office.

"I'm still in grief," - Ilaiyaraaja complied with the fans' requests for photos, patiently meeting them at his office. The office was also decorated with fresh flowers for his birthday. Gifts from admirers who travelled great distances to see Ilaiyaraaja were also accepted. In an interview with the media, he admitted that his heart wasn't in it. Though you are wishing me a happy birthday, I am not enjoying my birthday today as I am mourning the demise of my daughter (Bhavatharini)," he said, looking melancholy. I'm merely meeting you to say thanks to my fans.
