Prior to the upcoming assembly elections in the state, the latest statement made by the central government in parliament leaving it up to the discretion of the andhra pradesh government to implement five percent reservation to Kapus under the Economically Weaker Sections category is snowballing into a major issue. The legislation passed by the state assembly in 2019 was legal and valid, according to Union minister of State for Social Justice Pratima Bhoumik in response to a query posed in the rajya sabha by bharatiya janata party MP G v L narasimha Rao.
She claimed that no state needed to obtain the Center's approval before making reservations for any cases falling under the EWS category. Since giving Kapus a five percent quota under the EWS category fell under the purview of the state government, the act passed by the state legislature was legitimate and legal, according to her. As a result, jagan is now in charge. Within a few days, Kapu strongman and former minister Mudragada padmanabham sent the chief minister a letter in which he essentially begged him to adopt a 5% quota for Kapus in employment and education so that Kapus will always be thankful to him.
