Tata Altroz is based on the 45X concept be revealed in July 2019
Tata Motors will be revealing its first ever premium hatchback, the Altroz next month in india. We have previously had a look at the car at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, but it was dubbed the ‘Geneva Edition’, and was in near-production form. What we will get to see next month will be the india-spec Altroz.
It is underpinned by the ALFA-ARC platform and is the first car to be based on this new architecture. Tata plans to introduce more models based on this platform in the future, including the H2X entry-level SUV. The Altroz began life as the 45X concept that was first shown at the 2018 auto Expo.
The Tata Altroz will get both petrol and diesel engines, one of which will be the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol 3-cylinder engine from the Geneva Edition. It is tuned to make 102PS/140Nm. The other engines are likely to be a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated unit from the Tiago and a 1.5-litre diesel from the Nexon. Once launched in india, the Altroz will go up against the likes of the maruti Suzuki Bleno, toyota Glanza, hyundai Elite i20, volkswagen Polo and honda Jazz. The Altroz is expected to be priced between Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
